Every control loop requires feedback, and movement control is no exception. To measure the position of the motor shaft, we require the encoders.
An encoder converts the movement into an electrical signal, which can be read by data acquisition equipment or directly by a PLC.
The Encoders use different types of technologies to convert the movement into an electrical signal, these can be mechanical, magnetic, resistive or optical, the latter being the most common.
